When life feels unstable and everything goes wrong, the mind searches for an external cause, and the idea of a black magic curse becomes an easy explanation.
How do you know if you are cursed? What are the signs of a curse? How can you tell if someone has cursed you? What if what you are experiencing has another explanation?
After years of professional practice in demonic magic and curse diagnosis, one thing is clear: the majority of people who believe they are cursed are not. Most situations attributed to curses have psychological or situational explanations. In most cases, what they are experiencing is fear, exhaustion or loss of personal power. It's frustrating, but this run of misfortune tends to end without any special intervention.
That said, a smaller but still significant group of individuals are recurrent targets of spiritual interference.
What is a Curse?
It’s good to begin with precise definitions. The objective of a maleficium - curse or hex - is to cause damage to an individual via magical manipulation. The spell attaches itself to the target and begins to have adverse effects. This results in a strange succession of negative incidents that appear to be specific, from bad luck, illness and harm to even death when the spell is exceptionally malevolent.
The experience is always devastating, even if the curse is what we consider "weak". A curse stops you from progressing and any efforts seem to be rewarded with more and more negativity.
Can words curse someone? This is a surprisingly complex question. Depending on their purpose and context, yes, they can. Passive-aggressive words like "may your day be as pleasant as you are" are subtle curses you can send back in a second. When this happens, make sure to reply immediately with a "yours too".
The middle finger gesture is also a good idea.
Curse or Paranoia?
Am I cursed or paranoid? We must accept that psychotic features are sadly prominent in the occult community. Some of their members can be pretty suggestible and naive, to put it nicely, and they join the dark world while going through the most turbulent time of their lives, which only makes things worse for them.
Are you under the effects of a baleful spell or are you just deluding yourself? Look at it logically and consider if anyone would have a genuine reason to curse you. The chances are low if you consider that you need to have pissed off someone severely enough to make them want to hex you, and be able to pay for it.
And if the answer is yes, this person must find a genuine spellcaster skilled enough to put an effective hex on you, which is not simple at all.
I promise you the reality is much more practical. Calamities can happen to anyone. Annoyances and bad luck exist and our lives are shaped largely by our actions, decisions and patterns. A not-so-great existence is the reality for most people, and others just live in chronic dissatisfaction not because they are cursed, but because unresolved habits, environments, and beliefs continually work against them.
My intention is not to dismiss anyone’s experience, but to help you in therms of mental clarity.

A real practitioner must walk with integrity and not accept any curse removal request. I'm personally very careful when someone talks to me about their alleged hex symptoms but their sentences make no sense. I remember a woman who send me an insanely long message about an enemy who was putting "death spells" on her since 2004. Well, twenty years layer you are still much alive, so the "spells" are obviously not working.
People come to us when uncertainty fills their lives, but I reserve my right to refuse to work with people who seem to lack the most essential common-sense. In this case, this lady is the perfect target. She is not seeking confirmation or reassurance - she is now too attached to a narrative that gives meaning to her distress to let it go. Her belief is empowering an enemy who likely has no involvement at all. This person is her own hex.
The Signs of a Curse
The intensity and gravity of symptoms depend on several factors: the magnitude of the curse, the type of magic employed, and the nature of the spirits involved. Not all curses produce the same effects. For example, some extreme malefic attacks are fueled by what is described as death essence. They are intentionally destructive and designed to erode health, so evident sickness and decrepitude without a clear medical explanation are the results.
Usually, the symptoms of a curse are subtle manifestations that develop and worsen gradually. The following are the most frequent:
- Unusual hair loss.
- Continuous damage on your property, with objects breaking or malfunctioning in rapid succession.
- Persistent insect activity or abnormal animal encounters, without environmental explanation.
- Obsessive or intrusive thoughts centered on a specific person.
- Inexplicable injuries, bruises or minor accidents.
- Personal items going missing repeatedly, particularly those of emotional or sentimental importance.
- Self-destructive and suicidal thoughts.
- Financial problems, including blocked opportunities or repeated losses despite consistent effort.
In order to reasonably consider the presence of a curse, several signs must be present simultaneously - typically four or five, not just one. Isolated problems like the seasonal hair loss that happens twice a year, per se, it's never an indicative of magical interference. Correlation does not equal causation.
Are Generational Curses Real?
The idea of familial maledictions passed from one generation to the next has gained popularity, but it has long been well known among those familiar with the spiritual world.
The presence of an unresolved spiritual blood debt explains why, for example, generations of women appear bound to the same pattern of suffering, from grandmother to mother to daughter, or why the sons of certain lineages die young. If you need more prominent examples, generational curses are the reason why a particular royal title never produces male heirs to inherit it and has always reverted back to the crown.
The bloodline is waiting for someone to wake up and break the curse. If not, the next generation will never have any chance to blossom through their existence.
Yes, ancestral curses exist. A proper curse may affect whole family lines, but most of the time, it's intergenerational trauma and toxic patterns of behaviour. Dysfunctional parents are specialists on passing on the damage to their offspring. Children learn by imitation, so they grow up watching behaviors that cause unavoidable disastrous outcomes.
That's why you end up living the same exact life your parents did.
Lineage is what predisposes us to things like diseases, but also social disorders and an unhealthy mindset.
If your family is very religious and superstitious, take their stories about generational curses with a liberal amount of salt before assuming magical issues. Remember, is your responsibility to look into the patterns and do the deep shadow work to fix your internal issues before blaming a curse passed through generations.

How to Remove a Curse Safely
At some point, the situation must go beyond the superficial level of investigation. If you are cursed, you must delete the hex before it's too late. Fortune favors the bold. Don't be scared. Don't co-operate with the antagonist who is hexing you with your indecision, sadness and fear.
Can you simply let it go and see whether the curse fades over time? It depends. Some curses fall away on their own, but is not smart to think "I'm cursed, but I'm not going to take care of it because it will eventually go". When you are under the influence of a hex, time will not necessarily work in your favor.
Home remedies can help, but they can't be powerful enough to remove a malefic spell. And sad news, burning sage doesn't lift curses. The art of smudging is an ancient ritual for purification to clear the air of your space and make you feel better, but sage is ineffective.
Genuine curses can only be identified with certainty during a professional curse removal ritual. The confirmation will be clear during the magical work, and then you can decide to call it a day or avoid this mess again with a protection ritual to make you immune to eventual new baneful attacks.
What Happens Next
I can confirm that a curse removal is immediate. There's no waiting time, as it happens with love or money rituals. Once is done, is done. The curse is gone.
It's likely to experience the spiritual version of the phantom limb syndrome for a while, but there's nothing to worry about that. A person who has been cursed is a victim, after all, and they need time to come to terms with what happened to them and finally move on. There is usually a period of healing required.
As I explained in my post about parasite spirits, make sure to do something ceremonial and tangible about the end of this nightmare. Celebrate. Wait until things return to normal. Then, put the curse thing from your mind as much as possible and enjoy your life.

Comments
Thank you.
With all that said, are there any spells that help clear family trauma/self sabotaging patterns and negative beliefs handed to you by your parents? Specifically, lack of belief in oneself and lack of self love and confidence.
Could the ,heal emotional pain‘ and road opener help with that?
I’d say I’m pretty self reflected and been ,doing the work‘ – for the last years I’ve been trying various forms of therapies and methods to deal with this stuff but with rather limited and slow results whereas other report great transformations, hence I’ve been thinking nothing is really working and I might be cursed or have some entity attachment (I sometimes have disturbing dreams about evil malevolent stuff being after me).
I am making some changes, just too slow for my liking. In general life feels hard and like I’m stuck.
I do sometimes have these symptoms though:
Obsessive feelings about a particular person
Random bruises and scratches
Missing personal items. (Tbf though might just be because I’m chaotic but sometimes it seems unexplainable)
I’d be grateful to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
Great info thanks 😊
Love your blog! Really informative, keep up the great work :)
Another great education from Lila!!
